The main objective of the study is to understand the history
of spread of Buddhism from India to Central Asia, the
significance of Silk Road in this process and the influence of
Buddhism in the socio-cultural aspect of Central Asian societies.
The study discusses the religious, philosophical, socio-cultural
background of Buddhism in Central Asian Countries, which
contributed for a strong and lasting cultural relation between
Central Asia to India. This study argues that the Silk Road,
which was mainly famous as a trade road; at the same time its
spread Buddhist religion, philosophy, technology, manuscripts,
art, scripture, architecture, food habit, tourisms etc in Central
Asia. Given the current efforts Chinese efforts of revival of
the ancient Silk Road as Belt Road Initiative, this study with a
historical perspective has contemporary relevance and will be
a beneficial addition to the existing body of literature on Silk
Road studies.
